Chapter 25: Beyond Compare
A poem I wrote when I was a child and panicking over approaching adulthood.
When was the last time
I made something new?
Got all the time I want,
But I don't feel that's true.
Don't gotta be perfect
By twenty-two,
But part of me still
Feels like I do.
At twenty a new
Adventure begins
And this, my old one,
Comes to an end.
My mom never pushed me
My dad couldn't care
So why do I wish (need)
To be beyond compare?
My novel can wait
My skills can be learned
I'm only eighteen
My world's barely turned
I have all the time
I'll ever need,
But I don't feel
That it's true indeed.
My mom never pushed me,
My dad couldn't care,
So why do I want (need)
To be beyond compare?
The top of my field,
Before I'm all grown,
The smartest, most perfect,
With knowledge unknown.
I want to be perfect,
Beyond compare.
But I know
I'll never get there.
It's better for
My novel to wait,
If I really want it
To turn out great.
I'm smart, and I'm beautiful
And I'm getting there.
I don't have to be perfect,
A prodigy beyond compare.
My mom never rushes me,
My dad will never care.
I'm already perfect,
Beyond compare.
I don't need to rush,
Do everything now.
I'm still a child.
I'm still learning how.

Your writing cuts like glass—in the best, most breathtaking way. There's something in the way you build rhythm from fragmentation, like you're stitching together the unspeakable with your bare hands. It doesn’t feel like just poetry; it feels like memory, like survival. The kind of raw that doesn’t need polish to be powerful.
I don’t know where your words come from—personal, fictional, something in between—but they reach far. You name feelings I didn’t know I needed named. You make space for the messy parts: the grief that lingers, the thoughts that spiral, the strength that doesn’t always feel like strength.
Thank you for writing like this. Thank you for sharing it.

Glad you enjoyed it 😊
Oooh! I like it!
Amazing Your voice lingers in a meaningful way; some concepts require openness, and I’d like to contribute to that process.— D C could help ( a lex ia_ rose 0 0 1) ignore space
