There Are No Chess Clubs In Chaosville

"You've changed so much, Discord." Luna said. "But sometimes I wonder if you've really changed at all."

"Oh, believe me Princess, I've changed." Discord looked around at the assembled ponies. He thought for a moment, then seemed to make up his mind about something. "A few years back, I started regularly doing a thought experiment. İt has led me to a very important conclusion; there are no chess clubs in Chaosville."

"Excuse me?" Twilight asked. "What does that have to do with anything?"

"The thought experiment was simple; if I could have total chaos in Equestria and friendship, would İ?" Discord hummed a little in thought. "Eventually it became if İ could have Fluttershy's friendship and total chaos, then I added in Big Mac and Spike, and then Starlight, Trixie, and Thorax. But the answer changed while it was still just Fluttershy."

"Changed?" Fluttershy asked.

"İt used to be yes, of course." Discord told her with a grin. "But then it became so long as I don't have to hypnotize you into it. Over the years it's become maybe, and sorta, and only if nopony got hurt, and now it's no. İf I could keep every friendship I've made, no matter how small, I still wouldn't turn Equestria back into a world of total chaos."

"Why not?"

Nopony was quite sure who exactly asked, but they all agreed with the statement: why? Discord snapped his talons, and they were all transported to just outside his house.

"This is Chaosville - my realm. İt is a place of pure and absolute chaos, nonsense, destruction, and creation. İt's my favorite place in the whole multiverse. And yet, I leave it regularly, would rather spend time in neat and orderly Equestria - can anypony or dragon guess why?"

Silence.

"Because there are no chess clubs." Discord shook his head. "No Ogres And Oubliettes, no jazz bars, no art schools. No Tuesday Teas, and no Tuesdays. No petshops with cute baby animals, no hospirals with cute baby foals. No afternoon walks in a sunny forest, no midnight strolls by a lake. No birthdays, or holidays, or little get-togethers between friends."

"Discord..." Fluttershy looked up at him, realization dawning in her eyes.

"These things need order." Discord shrugged. "İ never paid any attention to them before - but I've learned to appreciate them. İ love chaos, and I love Chaosville, but that doesn't mean I have to want total chaos all the time. I'm happy bringing small doses, I'm happy cleaning up my mess, I'm happy to work alingside order instead of against it. Because chaos might make life fun, but order makes it run - İ see that now."

"İ like order." Fluttershy spoke. "İ like schedules, and things being neat and orderly - but I like our tea parties too. İ like your creativity, and the impossibility you bring to my orderly life. I'd never give up one for the other. Why should you have to?"

"Well put, my dear." Discord chuckled. "Now, who's ready to go home? There's an Ogres And Oubliettes tournament being broadcasted live tonight, and I am not missing it."

A snap, a flash of light, more chuckles - the only sign they'd ever been there at all.
