Summary

My ideas for what teams different Batman characters would have and why. Vaguely set in an AU where Pokémon suddenly show up without explanation and people are still getting used to them.

Chapter 1: Mr. Freeze

I posted this before I was ready because the image is too cute and I'm hoping people will start drawing more of happy Mr. Freeze surrounded by Ice Types. Please do it. Pretty please, with sugar on top! 🥺

Starting with Mr. Freeze, for exactly one reason:

This image from ChatGPT came out too perfectly and I had to share it. I literally couldn't find ANY fanart of Mr. Freeze cuddling with Ice Types, who wouldn't freeze to death from hugging him, so I decided to cure his touch starvation myself.

1) Glaceon — In my mind, he sees an Eevee about to get crushed by something, and blasts said something out of the way with his freeze ray without thinking. The Eevee follows him home, refuses to leave, and then evolves into Glaceon for the sole purpose of comforting him. As the first living creature he's been able to hold in years, it is his most treasured not-Nora companion.

2/3) Beartic/Shiny Beartic — these are to represent his polar bears from canon, Notchka and Shaka. They would have a similar backstory, with Mr. Freeze having found them as Cubchoo while looking for ways to save Nora.

4) Dewgong — Another callback to canon, this one represents his Artic homing seal, Isolde. All of his Pokémon will be Ice Types, for obvious reasons.

5) Frosmoth — Have you heard him wax poetic about Nora and warmth and snow and etc? This is a guy that appreciates beauty. Frosmoth is beautiful and cold, it matches him really well. And I feel like moths are symbolically perfect for a tragic character like him.

6) Cryogonal — It looks like him. Like, exactly like him. Vaguely robotic, ever monotone, icy... It works so well.

+Ride) Cetitan — It follows him home as a Cetoddle and he immediately goes 'must protect the cute baby'. Eventually it evolves and he rides it into battle, glorious battle!!! Jokes aside, I can totally see him shooting things with his freeze ray from atop Cetitan's back, and it's a motherly Pokémon which really matches his dad vibes (I like to headcanon that he and Nora are grandparents <3).

+Rotom — Technically a blue Rotom phone but it likes to leave its device and hang around as Rotom Frost instead.

Chapter 2: Riddler

Let's move on to the BEST Rogue, shall we?

Note: I wanted to give him Alakazam, but my little sister protested the decision based on the argument that he wouldn't want a Pokémon that much smarter than him. I as well wanted to give him Blipbug, but decided it fit Bookwyrm's aesthetic better. I as well thought of Ditto and Malamar, but each fit different Rogues better. If I'm being quite honest, his team was a nightmare to make... XD

1) Unown (? Form) — I'll admit that I didn't come up with this one, I've seen it in a few fics and pieces of art. Upon learning that a Pokémon exists that looks like a question mark, Edward would stop at nothing to make it his own. Tell me I'm wrong, I dare you.

2) Shiny Meowscarada — His Starter, which he would choose because green. My reasoning is that it uses optical illusions and trickery to outwit others, and it visually looks like Riddler's dramatic self, so it's perfect. Oh, and it's shiny because that makes it mostly green with black and some purple just like him.

3) Reuniclus — Did I pick most of these based on the color green? Yes, yes I did. But it's a Pokémon MADE OF BRAINS, it fits him so well!

4) Shiny Espeon — He's had cats in some comics, I'm fairly certain. Shiny Espeon is stylish, intelligent, and green. And I really like giving characters Eeveelutions.

5) Kecleon — In my defense, not many Pokémon are based around mazes, puzzles, or riddles. This thing is sneaky and green, and I think it's adorable, so now he has it.

6) Drizzile — One day Edward stumbles across a field of complex boobytraps and such. Curious, he wanders carefully through it, wanting to meet whoever made it. He discovers a Drizzile in its den. He compliments its traps. They become best friends for life. Seriously, the one booby-trapped based Mon I could really find AND it has some green and purple in its design, it's literally PERFECT.

+Ride) Oranguru — So smart it commands other Pokémon. Highly respected for its intelligence. Green and purple are present in its design. Venus brought up the idea of him sitting crosslegged on its back during plots, and now I'm hooked. The second-in-command in his army of darkness riddles.

+Rotom — A green Rotom Phone covered in question marks. It likes hacking, coming up with increasingly bizarre and difficult sign-in requirements, and randomly renaming files. Edward adores it.

Chapter 3: Batman

The art in this chapter is copy-paste, which I haven't done in years. I'm pretty sure I only used official artwork, but if I accidentally used someone's art I apologize and would be happy to credit them if I get their name or handle or whatever.

Unevolved team at top, evolved at bottom.

I think Bruce would actually have a ton of Pokémon that he circulates through to make it so that no-one can connect his team to Batman's. This is going to list his true team. They're all Dark Type because I have a vague idea of him somehow being a Gym Leader.

1) Urshifu (Single Strike) — Kubfu was young Bruce's beloved partner who was witness to his parents' deaths. When Bruce left to journey the world, Kubfu came with him, eventually evolving near the end of his journey.

2) Corviknight — Bruce has had it since it was a Rookidee, one of two Pokémon he's had since young childhood. It has a Dark Tera Type.

3) Pangoro — Bruce met/rescued a young Pancham on his journey. The Pokémon, impressed by him, started following him around and copying him as if he was a mentor from its own species. Despite his best efforts to discourage it from joining him, he eventually grew to accept it. This would be where his adoption problems started XD

4) Malamar — Manipulative, Dark Type, and its Mega Evolution represents Bruce's more flamboyant side perfectly. Maybe he'd get it as an Inkay from The League Of Shadows or something.

5) Umbreon — In this world, its black-with-yellow color palette would inspire his costume. I have no idea how he'd get it, though... maybe as a gift? 🤷‍♀️

6) Chi-yu — Accidentally found it during his journeys while sharpening his mind via solving ancient puzzles and mysteries, bonded with it, and now mainly uses it for his Brucie Wayne persona. ("This is my fire fish! Isn't it cute?" "Th-that's a mythical where did you get a mythical–" "Its name is Beady" "..."). He only uses it as Batman as a spy, otherwise keeping it as one of his few public Pokémon.

+Ride) Noivern — He needed a bat. He needed a ride. This was both, and it's epic, so here we go! Maaaaybe he already had it as Noibat as a child? Or maybe it was one of his parents' Pokémon?

+Rotom — A black Rotom phone who loves putting bat ears and logos on everything... Including its own cases (of which it has many). Switches through colorfully patterned cases when following Bruce in civilian form. Good at keeping files separate and hiding the bat-related ones.

Chapter 4: Royal Robin

Damian Wayne.

So I haven't made the full team yet and only have one figured out so far: Charcadet — he and Jon Kent would each have a Charcadet (one would be Shiny), and Damian's would evolve into Ceruledge while Jon's would become Armarouge.
