100 Smurfy Profiles

Chapter 1: Species Notes

Female Smurfs exist but are far less common than males. It's estimated to be around a 5:1 ratio. This has led to a popular myth that female Smurfs don't actually exist, giving birth to many theories on how they reproduce.

Smurfs actually reproduce via eggs, which take 10 or so years to hatch. Hatchlings are called hatchlings or Baby Smurfs. Smurf children/adolescents are called Smurflings. Smurfs reach maturity around 200 years after they hatch, though 300 is still considered pretty young.

By the time a Smurf reaches 1,000 years old, they are considered to be something of 'retirement' age. They support the village by taking care of Smurflings and teaching what they have learned, but no longer are expected to do much physically.

Smurflings go by various nicknames until they, or sometimes the larger group, gives them a true name based on some predominant trait of theirs. Most Smurflings don't think much about their names until about a third of the way through childhood, with many not really caring long into their 'teens', but some obsess over it.

Females have short, curly head hair. Males don't have head hair but typically start developing beards and mustaches as they get older, though many shave until they're truly old. Their hair gets longer and straighter over time.

Most Smurfs wear white, but not all. Smurfs feel weird showing their bare heads in public, meaning just about all of them wear hats, and might grow uncomfortable around people that don't (even from other species!). Red hats are worn traditionally only by their leaders, which are called Redcaps — most villages are led either by one Redcap or by a mated pair.

Smurf diets consist mostly of berries, especially one specific type dubbed 'Smurfberries'. Leaves, nuts, grasses, and roots are common as well. Smurfs are mildly photosynthetic, which is why so many go without shirts, to absorb sunlight. Mushrooms are occasionally eaten, but are more commonly grown for other uses, such as housing.

Smurfs have purple blood.

• Dogs — there is a dog living in Blossom, and it's a very weird thing. His name is Puppy.

• Bats — pretty much only Spelunker

• Rocks — surprisingly common, if only to humor Clumsy

Chapter 2: Alchemist 'Al' Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male

Special Trait: Alchemy/potions.

Job(s): Redcap of Blossom Village. Hobby sorcerer.

Appearance: Average height and build. Blue eyes. Full beard, white. Red hat, red footsie pants, fingerless red gloves, walking staff with potion bottles tied to it.

Relatives: Warrior Smurf (mate), Brainy Smurf (son), Smurfette (adopted daughter)

Shipped With: Warrior.

Age Bracket: Older adult.

My version of Papa Smurf.

He's wise, fair, and loving, but doesn't always notice when something bad or unfair is happening and is capable of making mistakes. He's strict and has a temper, but overall is a reasonable and caring authority figure that is well-respected for a reason.

Chapter 3: Warrior 'Rory' Smurf ♀️

Gender: Female

Special Trait: Battle philosophy.

Job(s): Redcap of Blossom Village. Fighting instructor.

Appearance: Average height and build. Turquoise/teal eyes. Long white hair, typically kept in a bun. Red hat, red shoes, red cardigan over a yellow dress, old spear used as a walking staff.

Relatives: Alchemist Smurf (mate), Brainy Smurf (son), Smurfette (adopted daughter)

Age Bracket: Older adult.

My version of Smurfwillow. She's got real Splinter from TMNT vibes.

Once a fierce warrior, she now spends her days teaching others how to fight — and when not to fight. She is big on loyalty, mindfulness, meditation, and all those other things that separate a village warrior from a random brute. She is kind, intelligent, and always encourages others to be their best selves. She can be strict, but she's always the first to offer somesmurf a chance to prove themselves, even when everysmurf (themselves included) don't think that they can.

She runs a mushroom building called the Dojo, where the village's protectors gather to train, spar, and learn.

Chapter 4: Brainiac 'Brainy' Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male

Special Trait: Learning/curiosity.

Job(s): Town Librarian, Assistant Potioneer

Appearance: Average height and build. Purple eyes. White hat, white footsie pants, round black glasses, oversized brown backpack.

Relatives: Alchemist Smurf (father), Warrior Smurf (mother), Smurfette (adopted sister)

Shipped With: Clumsy.

Age Bracket: Young adult.

As a Smurfling, he went by the nickname Glasses. He tried to choose the name Knowledgeable Smurf, but it didn't stick.

He tends to use big words when speaking, and has the nastiest habit of using run-on sentences. He loves to ramble.

He is the proud owner of a 'Smurfway', which he rides regularly. Sometimes he reads while riding it, but he's pretty good at not bumping into things.

He may not be Clumsy levels of ungraceful, but he still trips over his own feet more than most Smurfs.

He once spilt a potion on a ladybug. He nursed it back to health out of guilt, but it was forever changed. He adopted it as a beloved pet, naming it Snapshot/Snappybug.

He deeply respects and looks up to his parents, especially his Papa. He tries very hard to become a master potionmaker and grand leader just like his dear father.

A big milestone for Brainy will be when he realizes that he hates potions and doesn't even want to lead anything, politics are boring and stressful. He just wants to read and run experiments and maybe write a few thousand books that only Clumsy will actually read.

Temporarily filled in as village librarian despite his protests. Long story short, he lives in his public library now.

His pseudo big brother figure is Hefty. His best friend (and eventually more) is Clumsy. Despite initial dislike, he does come to see Smurfette as his sister and loves her deeply. Over time he manages other friendships, though usually quite against his will — these include Historian, Barista, and Jokey (this would be where the against his will most strongly comes into play).

Arrogant, smug, and incapable of admitting when he's wrong. He will learn how to be comfortable with his own talents and admitting when he doesn't know something... someday.

It's important to note that Brainy's intelligence isn't what isolates him.

The village reveres Alchemist for his intelligence. They like Handy despite his own mad scientist side. There are many intelligent Smurfs that are beloved.

Brainy is ostracized because he's mean, incapable of admitting when he's wrong, overly controlling, and always trying to tell others how to do their jobs even when he doesn't actually know how to do their jobs. He demands respect, obedience, and trust without earning it. He can't apologize and often deflects blame.

And he'll never 100% grow out of all that, but he WILL grow. And someday the village will think of bossy, annoying Brainy Smurf as a distant memory, replaced by their eccentric town librarian and resident mad scientist.

Brainy is legitimately a genius — but his need to ALWAYS be right and his constant guesswork when he doesn't know something rather than admitting he lacks specific information makes him come off as far less intelligent than he actually is, something that takes him a while to realize.

Brainy's attempts to justify and prove his intelligence actually make others doubt him, because they see him constantly telling them how to do their jobs 'better' in incorrect ways, see him deflecting and stumbling and insisting that he's right even when he's provably in the wrong, and they quite understandably write him off as all talk and no substance.

Ironically, Brainy will only gain the respect he so craves after he starts admitting when he can't do something. Only when he can say 'I don't know' and 'I need help' and 'I was wrong' and 'you're better at this than I am' without flinching will other Smurfs start realizing how intelligent he actually is.

Some already know. Clumsy knows. Hefty knows. Smurfette knows. Even Jokey knows. But the only way for everysmurf to know is if Brainy stops caring whether they know or not.

Chapter 5: Smurfette♀️

Gender: Female.

Special Trait: Emotional intelligence.

Job(s): Gardener, apprentice therapist.

Appearance: Average height and build. Yellow eyes. Long, straight blonde hair. White hat, white dress with a subtle flower pattern, white shoes. Eventually replaced by pink hat and dress, red shoes and cardigan.

Relatives: Alchemist Smurf (adopted father), Warrior Smurf (adopted mother), Brainy Smurf (adopted brother), Gargamel (Creator and 'father')

Shipped With: Hefty.

Age Bracket: Young adult.

Created by Gargamel after he heard the urban legend that female Smurfs don't exist, she was born with various health problems. She was discovered and rescued when she was still a Smurfling, before she grew fully into the seductress she was meant to be. She was adopted and brought to full health by Alchemist.

Smurfette is very different than most Smurfs. She has long, straight golden hair and bright yellow eyes. She doesn't understand Smurf-speak very well and has trouble recognizing the subtle differences in Smurf faces. In many ways, her mind works more like a human's than a Smurf's.

She starts off as Smurfette because she's not exactly a full Smurf.

She later claims the name Empathy (Emi) after realizing that her thing is emotions, even apprenticing under Mental and working as a therapist/counselor.

This grows into a talent for soothing conflicts, connecting with people, and getting others to listen to her — it is at this point that she fully grows into Ambassador (Amy) Smurf.

Someday, she will take over as the village Redcap (though she'll wear pink), alongside Hefty.

I disliked how that one Smurf show made her Thing 'smurf-fu'.

That felt like a betrayal to Smurfette's character. It felt weak. It felt like they didn't know how to make her more than 'the girl Smurf' without randomly making her tougher than Hefty.

Smurfette is NOT a fighter. An adventurer, sure, and she can have her tough moments — but not a fighter.

She is sensitive. Her dynamic with Hefty is partially her saying 'babe that thing scares me punch it' and Hefty going 'you got it babe' with zero questions.

Smurfette has always had a caretaking side. A nurturing side. She's soft, gentle, sweet — and yes, that's because she was 'the girl' in an age where most girls were shown like that.

But Vanity has always been image-obsessed and was shown to live in a PINK house. Clumsy was caring, sweet, and so emotionally open that he barely thought twice about telling his friends how much he cared about them. GROUCHY of all Smurfs was shown to love flowers and was one of the ones closest to Baby Smurf.

Smurfette, meanwhile, had a 'takes shit from no-one' personality right from the get-go. She had her own temper and her own bravery. She was even shown to be something of a leader already, such as when she led Greedy and Lazy in a plan to prank Jokey back after a a prank spree.

And what did she do when Lazy fell asleep in the middle of the plan, which required all of them to giggle? She gently admonished him and tickled him to both wake him up and get him laughing for the plan. THAT'S gentle but decisive leadership.

Many female characters from that time period need updates. But I refuse to betray who they are to do that. Smurfette being strong and finding her own Thing instead of just being the girl doesn't require her to suddenly be a kickass who doesn't need help from anyone — it requires playing up the strengths she already had, like emotional empathy and social glue.

Chapter 6: Hefty Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male.

Special Trait: Strength — of body, will, and character.

Job(s): Town protector and strongsmurf.

Appearance: Tall and muscular. ??? eyes. White hat, white footsie pants, red heart tattoo on his upper arm.

Relatives: ???

Shipped With: Smurfette.

Age Bracket: Older-young adult.

The strongest Smurf alive.

He starts off reckless and rarely thinks things through or listens to others' advice, but he matures over time, even eventually taking over as village leader/Redcap along with Smurfette. He loves his family, friends, and village fiercely.

He tends to call older Smurfs 'Sir' and 'Ma'am', especially Alchemist and Warrior.

Everything about him is strong, his emotions included. He cares deeply about the world and people around him. When he learned about tattoos after a journey to a human village, he decided to give himself a heart tattoo — he loves being the resident Strongsmurf, but he wanted others to know right from the first time they see him that there's a bit more to him than just that.

Popular, tough, a little patronizing, and more than a bit dense. But he's never mean and sees those weaker than him as beings to be protected, not attacked.

Hefty cares deeply and is protective — but his Thing, what he NAMED HIMSELF AFTER, isn't his big heart; it's his big muscles.

He is the guy you call to soothe you after a nightmare not because he's emotionally fluent, but because he radiates 'I love you and will tackle God himself if he looks at you funny — and I will win'.

He's the strongsmurf. He spends his days clearing logs from paths without breaking a sweat. His house is filled with dumbbells and zero chairs. He can take on Azrael by himself and only come out with a few deep gashes.

His heart is big, his sense of loyalty is bigger — but his muscles are biggest.

Chapter 7: Clumsy Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male

Special Trait: Clumsiness

Job(s): Crafting and selling pet rocks, firefighter, Firescale Dragonfly tamer and rider

Appearance: Smaller than average height and build, with a face full of freckles. Green eyes. Slightly oversized white hat that always half-covers his eyes, white footsie pants, usually some bandages or patches.

Relatives: Farmer Smurf (older brother), Spelunker Smurf (older brother), Metal Smurf (older brother), Wooly Smurf (older brother), Mason Smurf (older brother), Distractible Smurf (younger brother)

Shipped With: Brainy.

Age Bracket: Young adult.

The first Smurf to ride a Firescale Dragonfly, he discovered that his normal clumsiness doesn't carry over to directing a Dragonfly and it actually gives him something of a leg up — he's already used to sharp turns, quick corrections, maneuvering in chaos, and even being upside down!

He's obsessed with rocks. He collects them, has a rock garden, and even knows most rocks' scientific names (though he can rarely pronounce them).

He speaks with a Southern accent, like most of his family. He falls over and hits into things a lot, hence his name, but never lets accident-prone nature keep him down.

One day he met a nerdy little Smurfling that used a bunch of big words he didn't understand and seemed a bit mean. But this Smurfling actually tried to explain things to Clumsy rather than assume he couldn't understand, and for that Clumsy decided he was his now.

Then the other actually listened when he rambled about rocks, and told him very good, Clumsy when he remembered something right, and read his own books out loud instead of mocking Clumsy's issues with making out the big words. And for that, Clumsy decided he was his forever.

I like when a character is allowed to be flawed.

Clumsy IS an idiot. He always will be. But he respects intelligence rather than resent it, and he always tries to understand even when he knows he probably won't be able to. And he never uses his lack of mental capability as an excuse to be cruel or reckless.

Clumsy has trouble grasping and retaining information, and that isn't a good or even neutral thing — it's a bad one. He's so curious and determined to learn that he'd probably be some level of genius if he was capable of it.

That's part of why he and Brainy work. Subconsciously or not, Brainy recognizes a kindred spirit in him. And it almost doesn't matter that Clumsy can't be a genius — he makes Brainy more determined to be less bluster and more actual intelligence, if only to learn more about Clumsy's own passions.

I tried to let Clumsy be an idiot, one that can become smart in some ways with hard work, but still someone who can never not be an idiot. And that's okay. It sucks, it makes his life harder, but it doesn't make him incapable. His flaws don't have to be erased to make his virtues count. And his own lack doesn't mean he can't appreciate what he has, or that he can't love others that can do what he can't.

Chapter 8: Jokester 'Jokey' Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male

Special Trait: Explosives and weapons design.

Job(s): Delivery Smurf, villager protector

Appearance: Smaller than average height and build, with a slim, wiry body. Orange eyes. White hat that usually has soot stains on it, white footsie pants, open white vest with a yellow squirty flower. Usually has soot on his nose, cheeks, ears, and fingers.

Relatives: Equilibrist Smurf (younger sister)

Shipped With: Magician.

Age Bracket: Young adult.

Small and not particularly strong, but good at running, flipping, jumping, and dodging. One of the fastest Smurfs, he is often sent to delivery emergency messages, which is among the few things he takes seriously and won't mess up for fun.

He spends most of his life happy with being a menace, but he's still a Smurf and all Smurfs want to be helpful in some way, leading him to eventually become upset when he realizes he's worse than useless to the village. Eventually he discovers that the talents he normally uses for pranks — his parkour skills, traps, explosives, and talent for manipulation — have alternative uses in defending the village.

Has many burns from his constant work with explosives. His ears are eternally ringing for exactly the same reason, and while he's not anywhere close to deaf, he does have worst hearing than most Smurfs.

His expressions are always sharper and more extreme than most Smurfs, no matter the situation or emotion. His voice is high-pitched and fast, and he giggles almost constantly. His hyperactivity and lack of fucks to give lead his speech to be somewhat lazy, filled with missing sounds and combined words, though he can be surprisingly eloquent if he puts his mind to it.

He never means to really hurt anysmurf, exactly, but he has little to no concept of safety. Explosives, giant tarantulas, even putting somesmurf in Gargamel's way won't register as particularly dangerous in his brain. He has almost no sense of consequences unless they are made very clear.

He does have lines, however. He understands that babies and small children are fragile. He loves when people yell or otherwise get frustrated from his pranks, but panics and tries to make up for it if they start crying. Once he does realize he's put somesmurf in actual danger, he immediately goes for help or tries to rescue them himself, but almost never learns a lesson from the situation.

Jokey doesn't have great empathy skills. Sometimes, it takes feeling something himself for him to realize it's wrong to make others feel that way. Only after dealing with bullies of his own does Jokey finally, slowly realize how much of a bully he himself is — he'll never stop pranking or being the explosive and abrasive Smurf he's always been, but this Heel Realization does kick off him learning to be kinder and more discerning in his tricks.

Sleeps surrounded by joke boxes and stuffed animals. The only object he really prizes is his joke book, which he memorized ages ago. His best friends are Vanity and Grouchy, their friendship is based on insulting the village and being generally the unsmurfiest Smurfs alive, though they always come through for their fellow Smurfs in a pinch. Another friend of his is Brainy, his absolute favorite target for one simple reason — Brainy is too smart to keep falling for Jokey's jokes, yet still does every single time.

For some reason or another, Brainy plays along with Jokey's games, acts as his straight man and foil on purpose. Jokey will forever love him for it.

Jokey's roommate turned crush is Magician Smurf, who has an explosive side of her own.

He's a mailsmurf. This is why everysmurf consistently falls for his pranks — he times it just right so they fall into a false sense of security because they keep getting real mail and presents from him, and then BOOM! XD

He has a little sister that looks up to him and is gleefully following in his prankster footsteps.

Jokey is not a role model. He's reckless, usually doesn't consider potential consequences before he does something, and thinks that an explosion in someone's face is the height of comedy. He's rarely malicious, but he is ever careless with safety, both his own and others.

Jokey is pretty much allergic to responsibility. But when he sees his little sister about to pull the same sort of reckless, consequence-blind, potentially harmful prank he specializes in? Then, and only then, will he play the voice of reason.

He loves that his little sis is a prankster like him — but he doesn't want her to be a prankster exactly like him. He wants her to be better.

Was once a workaholic weapons expert named Arsenal Smurf who found a passion for pranks and changed forever. When he switched his name to Jokester, he discovered that the easiest way to let everysmurf know was to just tell Nosey.

Chapter 9: Vanity Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male.

Special Trait: Beauty/aesthetic.

Job(s): Interior decorator, skincare expert.

Appearance: Average build but slightly taller than most, with features that are considered particularly desirable. ??? eyes. White hat, white footsie pants, a flower (usually made of cloth but sometimes real) tucked behind his left ear, never seen without a hand mirror.

Relatives: Reversal Smurf (younger 'brother' and living reflection)

Shipped With: Grouchy.

Age Bracket: Older-young adult.

His house is pink and covered in flowers, decorated in soft carpets, paintings and statues of himself, vases on pedestals, and so many mirrors. He loves flowers, makeup, decorating, and most of all himself. Good at skincare and such. He likes talking a LOT, especially about himself, and is actually pretty knowledgeable about things related to beauty or mirrors.

He hates eye contact, so is always staring at his mirror. He loves looking at himself, so is always staring at his mirror. He notices just about everything but everysmurf thinks he's completely oblivious because he's apathetic to almost everything but himself.

He loves complaining and insulting others behind closed doors, which is part of what connects Jokey and Grouchy to him. He is genuinely self-obsessed but still capable of care — at his worst, he thought that pictures of himself were the ultimate gift and talking about himself was the ultimate conversation. He does get a bit better over time, due to his relationships to others.

He doesn't treat Reverse very well right after accidentally creating him, but of course Vanity's first time caring about somesmurf else involved his own reflection. This is as well his first time feeling guilty and internalizing the idea that other people, their thoughts and feelings, matter.

He'll never stop being vain, self-obsessed, and in general rather rude. But he isn't actually a narcissist and he certainly isn't a sociopath, and he gets better over time. A little better, at least.

Grouchy and Vanity fell in love because they sat next to each other on a bench.

Vanity spent the entire time talking about himself and complaining about things, not once looking at Grouchy.

Grouchy contributed to the conversation maybe a handful of times, each a proclamation of dislike for something rather than a response to what Vanity said.

Then they went back to their own homes... and returned the next day to sit on the bench again.

Grouchy doesn't want to have to talk beyond a few 'I hate _'s. Vanity doesn't want to focus on another person. Neither wants to be alone.

Vanity doesn't demand that Grouchy talk back, Grouchy doesn't ask Vanity to look at him. And neither is merely tolerating the other — the other is their ideal conversation partner, their safe space, the one person they don't have to change for.

Because they do have to change. Grouchy is overly depressed and angry. Vanity has intense issues connecting to others. They don't need to erase who they are, but they do need to change, and they will — but they still find each other the exact sort of weird they need.

Someday Grouchy will say 'I love you, Vanity' without even thinking about it. Someday Vanity will tell Grouchy he looks absolutely amazing without tying it into his own looks. It will take them a long time to get there.

But that's okay. Because Vanity doesn't need affirmation, he needs someone who's happy to listen to a three hour rant about skincare, all while not making eye contact. Grouchy doesn't need grand gestures of romance, he just needs someone who's willing to complain with him and exist with him and speak AT him without expecting reciprocity.

Neither is perfect, and improvement will be a long road for them. But for now, they are each exactly the sort of imperfect the other is willing — and happy — to work with.

Chapter 10: Grouchy Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male

Special Trait: Grouchiness.

Job(s): Babysitter.

Appearance: Average height and build. ??? eyes. Black hat, black footsie pants, ever-present scowl.

Relatives: ???

Shipped With: Vanity.

Age Bracket: Older-young adult.

He adopted Baby Foundling after finding him in the woods, and did so surprisingly well with him that he's often trusted with the various other children of Blossom. He's not entirely sure when he became the village's free babysitter, but he... doesn't entirely hate it.

In love with Vanity.

Hates having to talk too much. Hates... pretty much almost everything.

Loves clouds, flying, children, philosophy, flowers, and chaos.

He once thought of naming himself Cloudgazer Smurf, until he discovered his true passion and life's mission — to be the grouchiest son of a Smurf to ever live. His grumpiness and pessimism is real, but he plays it up for his own amusement; he is so committed to the bit, he has trouble even thinking the words 'I love'.

Eventually he learns a bit of balance. Very, very, very far in the future. Baby helps.

He hates Philosopher from the first moment he sees him, and most Smurfs think that said hate only grew over time. He often interrupts Phil's lectures by eating loudly or throwing things at him. They argue near constantly when put within sight of each other.

In truth, the hate fizzled out after their first real conversation, and they are now best friends because they share a very unique love language: constant bickering and heckling.

Grouchy and Vanity fell in love because they sat next to each other on a bench.

Grouchy doesn't need grand gestures of romance, he just needs someone who's willing to complain with him and exist with him and speak AT him without expecting reciprocity.

Neither is perfect, and improvement will be a long road for them. But for now, they are each exactly the sort of imperfect the other is willing — and happy — to work with.

Chapter 11: Handy Smurf ♂️

Gender: Male.

Special Trait: Invention and repair.

Job(s): Woodworking, repair, various odd jobs.

He has two motivations: an intense desire to help others and equally intense random whims. The most practical, grounded, and down-to-Earth Smurf... riiight up until he adds a missile launcher to a nanny bot or gives Scaredy a jetpack.

Everysmurf is incredibly lucky he's too busy keeping the town from collapsing in on itself to really work on his personal projects.

He has a patient pride in Scaredy, who often comes to him when especially frightened or worried. He tries to be a calming, grounding presence for other Smurfs, and he tends to succeed.

He is eternally overworked and pulls many overnighters.

He is one of the Smurfs that took to Barista's whole coffee thing the quickest, incorporating it into his morning routine before almost anysmurf else did.

He built a super fast and efficient coffee maker for Barista and prioritizes repairs for her in exchange for unlimited coffee. The rest of Blossom has some complaints about this arrangement...

A traveling psychologist who visited Blossom, only planning to stay for a couple of days.

He's still there. He does not want to be there. But damn does there need him!

He has personally renamed like a third of the village ("Why the smurf are so many of your names so insulting?? No, you cannot just call someone 'Lazy' as their name– WHAT DO YOU MEAN THERE'S A 'DIMWIT' SMURF?!"). I unashamedly am using him to explain most of the renames I've done.

Mental's Patients

Mental was an expert on the Smurf brain, both biologically and psychologically. If there was anything anysmurf knew about it, then he knew it plus some.

Of course, his brilliance had been entirely for research purposes only. Because that's what he was — a researcher. He knew a lot, but his knowledge didn't have much practical application beyond maybe writing some textbooks. Everything he did was stuck purely in the realm of theory and discussion.

Until he moved to Blossom, a small town somewhat cut off from the rest of the world, where most Smurfs didn't even know psychology was a thing. He hadn't intended to stay, at first, as he was only there for a rest as he journeyed across the world to study.

But something about the town and its Smurfs called to him. It wasn't like they were all deranged or anything, but there were certainly a lot of fascinating cases for him to study. Besides, there were some Smurfs who really needed him.

He hadn't intended to become a psychiatrist, but now he's Dr. Mental. Some of his cases are simple things: mild obsession, insecurity, the regular stuff that Smurfs always need to talk about but never do.

Others... Others are Scaredy, who had never heard of clinical anxiety but is the living definition of it. Others are Poet, whose obsession with verse affects his speech. Others are Jokey or Grouchy, who are nearly incapable of dealing with their emotions in healthy ways.

Then, of course, there are the truly exceptional cases. There's Feral, who was raised by squirrels and barely knows how to be a Smurf, despite Tracker's patient efforts. There's Smurfette, who isn't even really a Smurf, whose mind works more like a human's.

And there's Prophet, the only Smurf in Blossom to be put on permanent house arrest. He's never violent or self-destructive, always quiet and sad, but he can't be let out. Suffering almost constantly from hallucinations, he requires help with even the most basic of daily tasks.

Most know him as Crazy Smurf, but Mental refuses to call him that. He's constantly reminded of his insanity as it is, why must even his name be a reminder? So he calls him Patient or Prophet, encourages him to refer to himself as such, and to always keep working on overcoming his delusions — no matter how impossible it seems.

Beyond that, there's the cases he never signed up for, but are somehow his responsibility anyways — Smurfling drama, couples counseling, new parents panicking because their hatchling can't talk yet.

He still laughs at one memorable incident where Brainy insisted that Harmony must be insane for thinking his 'music' sounded good, and got half the village on his side before he'd even finished speaking. Explaining the difference between 'insane' and 'thinks differently' had taken Mental the better part of a week, though he's still not entirely sure Brainy was actually wrong...

Mental's life has never been boring — he traveled the world during his studies, after all — but it was a fairly normal kind of exciting, nothing like his life since he came to Blossom.

Somehow, he found the one thing he never considered in this secluded little town: a home. And he couldn't be happier, truly!

Even if he really, really wishes he wasn't the only therapist...

Once known as Crazy Smurf, he's a poor Smurf who was driven insane by his own ability to see the future. He often hallucinates, though sometimes the hallucinations turn out to be visions, making it all the harder for him to heal as there's always a chance that the bizarre things he sees are real.

He is self-aware of his own issues but unable to do anything about them. For his own safety and the safety of others, he was put on house arrest, with different Smurfs taking turns visiting him each day to talk and deliver food/books/etc.

When Mental Smurf moved to town, he immediately took on 'Crazy Smurf' as a patient, though he refused to call him that and instead renamed him Patient (and later Prophet when he learned of his abilities). While he's still on house arrest and still has issues, with Mental's help he's doing better and is far happier nowadays.

Basically my fix for Crazy Smurf, because mental issues shouldn't be glorified or turned into a punchline. They suck, they make people's lives harder, and they are bad things that some people unfortunately have to deal with.

Despite his fear or maybe because of it, he cares deeply for the wellbeing of others and always tries to keep the village safe — even if the 'threat' he's protecting them from is only in his head.

He is extremely protective over his backpack and especially of the saddle blueprints/sketches he keeps inside, nothing breaks through his composure so fast as it getting damaged does.

He is extremely close to Equilibrist, Glider, Feral, Haberdasher, and Cheshire. He is the leader of their friend group, nicknamed 'Chief' by the others. This is due to his introspective nature, ability to recognize others' strengths and how best to use them, and his genuinely very kind and contagiously upbeat personality.

He believes strongly in self-love, not just in himself but in others — learning that someone, especially someone he cares for, doesn't like something about themselves genuinely horrifies him. Cracking a self-deprecating joke around him will immediately result in hugs and relentless affirmations of beauty/care/specialness/etc.

He doesn't swear often, but when he does it's like a sailor. This is because of a combination of sharing most of Vanity's Smurflinghood memories (Vanity is adept at insulting others) and living with Dreamy's crew of sorta-sailors for five years.

Jokey's unicycle-obsessed little sister. She went by 'Pigtails' as a Smurfling.

She is almost always in motion, and rarely stands straight or still — she is flipping, juggling, doing a handstand, balancing in improbable ways, cackling, jumping, exploding with energy.

She is excellent at multitasking and very competent in her own ways. She sees insults and playful ribbing as love, but doesn't always realize when she's gone too far or if she's forgotten to mix the teasing with genuine reminders of care.

A young Smurf who came up with the idea of hanggliders before learning they were actually a thing, and then got Handy to build one for him. As his name suggests, he loves hanggliding. Maybe has a flying squirrel friend or doll or something?

He is a thrill seeker and daredevil, but surprisingly grounded, reality-based, and dry-witted. He's the master of deadpan and is usually giving someone a flat look... right up until he gets into the air, then he's a wide-eyed, excited kid whooping in pure joy as he plummets towards the ground.

He is extremely confident. Overly so, even. In a time of danger, his idea to escape was jumping off a tower with a torn tapestry and some broken sticks haphazardly turned into a flying thing that he would later learn is called a hangglider. That's his naming origin, jumping off a cliff because he believed he could fly. But his confidence is also his strength — he believes in himself no matter what anyone else says, and he won't flinch or hesitate when the moment calls for it.

He has a bit of a crush rivalry with Equilibrist.

He doesn't need others to boost his confidence, but he does believe that friends are supposed to compliment and encourage each other. This clashed with Quil's 'I insult you because you are mine' style of friendship and led to misunderstandings. But they eventually met in the middle — Glider learned that some teasing is okay and that love can be shown in many ways, while Quil realized that friendly teasing has a limit and needs to be mixed with genuine 'you are amazing and I love you' moments.

If he's not flat-out related to Pilot, then Pilot is still at least his mentor/somesmurf he looks up to.

A chocolate maker who secretly works for Gargamel.

But like, is overall a nice(ish) guy and a normal Smurf. He's just a punchclock villain acting as Gargamel's long-suffering and exasperated assistant/minion who does his bidding in exchange for magic lessons.

So Gargamel's like "Smurf! Go gather mushrooms for my potion!"

And he's all like "[long dramatic sigh] yes Gargamel..." and grumbles while he drags a smurf-sized basket behind him to get the stupid mushrooms. XD

Because his teacher is Gargamel, he's very bad at magic, and even more accident-prone than his so-called mentor.

Despite everything, a part of him is fond of Gargamel. A little. Mostly he just thinks he's an idiot.

Bonds with Azrael over shared annoyance and exasperation with their 'master'.

Maybe there would be a moment before the other Smurfs know where Chocolate Smurf almost blows his cover because he forgets he's supposed to fear Azrael — maybe even one where he secretly talks Azrael into not attacking because of something happening that day (maybe some contest he's been looking forward to is happening, maybe he had a moment of sympathy for another Smurf's goals, whatever), and then badly covers up how he 'escaped' Azrael and is believed anyways.

In my head, it wouldn't be obvious at first that Chocolate and Apprentice are the same Smurf, with the rare but not unique eye color being the biggest clue. There'd be some fakeouts and foreshadowing before the audience learns (long before the other Smurfs do) that they're one and the same.

I as well find it funny to imagine Chocolate causing magical mishaps in the village and trying to hide his abilities from the other Smurfs. Maybe even accidentally cursing a batch of chocolate and trying to deal with it in increasingly ridiculous ways before his secret double life can be revealed.

I figure there would be a lot of back-and-forth in his arc, keeping the audience guessing which side he'll fully commit to for a long time before it finally happens. I want him to be someone the audience begins to root for, before reminding them that he's someone they need to root against.

I think that if he was ever discovered and had to choose between being Chocolate or Apprentice, he'd choose Apprentice. He may be a punchclock villain, but that's still a type of villain.

He might avoid actively hurting or capturing his fellow Smurfs, but he still feeds intel to and actively assists the man who is trying to turn them all into tests subjects and power sources.

He might have a place in the village and not actively hate any of his fellow Smurfs, but he has no love for them either. I suppose I have to correct myself, because he isn't a normal Smurf — he's a wizard's henchman, and it's a role he thrives in no matter how exasperated or annoyed or overburdened he gets.

He's not exactly evil, he's just... putting his own self interests first, in the worst way.

He wouldn't be completely selfish, though. He's still a Smurf, after all, and he'd have his moments of being genuinely compassionate or helpful. He'd probably even have a scene after switching fully to Gargamel's side where he uses what little magic he has to save the Smurfs from some other threat before running off back to Gargamel's hovel, showing he still somewhat cares about his own kind even after everything — just not more than he cares about the life he's built on the villains' side.
